Greetings all, welcome to our 2nd Gab!

2 weeks have come and gone as fast as Amy-Jane Mundy in a lap race and now school holidays and the Easter weekend is upon us.

We have lots planned and especially for Easter Sunday.
We will be having a massive Mountain Biking Easter Egg hunt on at 10:30 for all the kids. We will be hiding Easter Eggs all around the Trail centre so come on kids, what you find is what you keep.
Don’t panic Mom’s and Dad’s we will also be hiding Easter eggs on all of our trails throughout the day, so what ever time you come down, keep your eyes peeled for some chocolate eggs.

Some other exiting news is that we will serve breakfasts, fruit salads, muesli, toasted sandwiches, salads and light lunches. So to all the savoury lovers, we will now be looking after you.

We are very honoured and exited to welcome Springbok and Olympic Mtb rider Amy-Jane Mundy to the Giba Gorge Crew. Amy will be joining me in hosting our Giba Gorge Gromms Club mountain biking clinic over the school holidays.

They will be running over 3 days and include lunches, cold drinks, certificate on completion and be loads of fun while learning necessary skills on mountain biking. If you are interested please call Ian on 073 153 0986 or Amy on 082 326 5533. They start at 8:30am and finish at 2:30pm, the cost is R350 per child, booking is essential.

The massive storms gave us a shake up with trees falling all over the trails, 2 days later most where cleared, the ones that have been left have been done so on purpose, watch this space for some exiting riding obstacles ; )

On a good note, it was great to see that the actual Single Track held out and was not washed away or caused any erosion; I would just like to thank the trail builders for their hard work in building them correctly.

We have opened up a new section of trail that is a bit more technical with a wooden drop off. It has been claiming a few riders and unfortunately claimed our 1st broken bone, there is a chicken run right next to it so please ride to your ability and remember commit, go for it and don’t pull back.

By this weekend we will have 2 new trails open, 1 being a loop that is really something Wow and the 2nd a downhill run that will get your hart racing and adrenalin pumping.

Talking of Trail Building, have you ever wanted to build a trail or want to get involved or even name a part of a trail, then give me a shout. Yes that’s right, we are looking for volunteers who wish to get involved and give up some of their time and come and help out in the building of some new trails. The more volunteers, the more trails, the more fun. We are especially keen to get some technical/North Shore stuff of off the ground, no pun intended so let us know.

Congratulations to all the Giba Gals who completed their 1st Mtb race at Baynesfield on the weekend. It has been awesome to see you all grow in your skills and confidence, well done.

For all the mom’s , self employed or any lady that can take an early lunch, at 8am to be precise, come down to Giba Gorge and join us on our ladies only ride. You will be coached up hills and be motivated to go down, no pressure from husbands or boyfriends, just the girls having a laugh. Coffee and cake afterwards!

There has been a huge demand by ladies who work so we are looking at doing an evening ladies only ride, please e mail me on ian@gibagorge.co.za with suggestions on what night you would prefer.

Now for the 1st time ever, you can ride the same set out trail and we will take your time. The trail is 2.2km, and you get half an hour to do as many laps as you can. We will be taking your time down from after the 30 mins and we will keep a log.

So challenge your mates or just yourself and see if you can improve weekly. We will change the route every 4 weeks to keep it interesting. This will be happening every Thursday night, starting at 5:30pm sharp.

We have had requests for the time trial to be held on a Tuesday evening due to the Kingfisher paddling time trial and also for the guys who are racing on the weekends so they can rest before. We would like to know from you what evening you feel would be best? Please e mail me at ian@gibagorge.co.za

Again a huge thank you for all of your support and we look forward to seeing you soon at Giba Gorge.
